ONLINE SESSION
Session Proposal:
Medievalist Fantasy and Science Fiction
This session intends to put together discussions about medievalist fantasy and medievalist science fiction. It could be argued that medievalist fantasy is more related to the historical Middle Ages while science fiction medievalism is more generic, hence it includes elements of medieval provenance, yet without resorting to the historical period. Yet medievalist science fiction has been trying to overcome this limitation and increasingly there are analyses of how medieval history and literature reverberates in sci-fi. On the other hand, medievalist elements in fantasy that do not point to specific elements in the history or literature need to be adequately addressed as well.
