ASIAN MEDIEVALISMS

Asian medievalisms can be seen from two perspectives: either as continuations of the global Middle Ages in various Asian countries, including Japan and China, or as popular culture phenomena at least partly inspired by the European Middle Ages or simply by European medievalisms in popular culture. TV shows about Chinese culture, such as Kingdom, or Japanese manga can be seen as global medievalisms or as what demonstrates interest in Western fantasy. They can be inspired by such texts as Chinese wuxia narratives, which situate warriors in the distant past, and by how Western fantasy creates alternative worlds.

Please enter your proposal into the Confex system by 15 September 2026.
