Reimagining Marie de France: Adaptations, Translations, and Fan-Fiction (A Roundtable)
Description
The Lais of Marie de France have been the subject of a number of translations, adaptations, and even fan-fiction. There are medieval translations like the Old Norse Strengleikar, contemporary adaptations such as Emilie Mercier’s animated short film and Kel McDonald’s graphic novel, and even novels about Marie de France, like Lauren Groff’s Matrix, a sort of fan-fiction that re-imagines the context of Marie’s Lais. This roundtable seeks contributions on any aspect of translating, adapting or re-interpreting Marie de France, using any methodological approach, in order to better define the history and significance of the works of Marie de France.Submit an Abstract to this Session
